Two men were arrested in relation to the recent raid reported at a north Laredo hookah lounge, authorities said.

In December, police received a Laredo Crime Stoppers tip involving possible narcotics activity at El Privado Hookah Lounge on 9802 McPherson Road. LPD’s Narcotics and Vice Unit collected sufficient evidence following a multi-week investigation to obtain a search warrant for the business.

Police raided the location on Jan. 7. Narcotics officers seized large amounts of illegal narcotics which included THC, THC oils, THC gummies and hydroponic marijuana. The narcotics were located in various places within the business, according to police.

Authorities said they also discovered a makeshift laboratory that was hidden out of view of the main areas of the business.

“Various types of chemicals, additives and flavorings were being used to infuse THC into many of the products making them more potent and potentially presenting a higher risk to unsuspecting patrons,” police said in a statement.

Matthew Paul Brown, 39, and Eduardo Palacios Jr., 23, were identified as business partners of the El Privado Hookah Lounge. Both were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and manufacture, delivery of a controlled substance.

Additional charges could be pressed as the investigation continues.

“We continue to encourage the community to reach out and report any illegal activity to Laredo Crime Stopper at 727-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous with their information and may qualify for a cash reward,” LPD stated.
