Bangalore: Congress lambasted CT Ravi, General Secretary of the People’s Party on Thursday

"Nehru Shisha Bar" commented and stated that his remarks reflected the culture and attitude of his political party. The former Minister and People’s Party MLA CT Ravi has proposed to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai that all Indira Canteens be renamed “Annapoorneshwari Canteen”.

Congress leaders opposed the proposal and warned that if the government changes the name of Indira Canteens, it will trigger protests. On Thursday, Ravi defended his statement that Congress could open a canteen in its party office and name it Indira Canteens, or even open a hookah bar and name it "Nehru hookah bar."

"We remember the contributions of Nehru and Indira Gandhi, but we are not slaves to accept everything," he said. KPCC Chairman DK Shivakumar said: "The services, sacrifices and development measures carried out by the Nehru family for our country have no rivals in the People's Party." He said that Ravi had served as Minister of Kannada Language and Culture, but his remarks reflected the culture of his party.

"The Nehru family is unmatched by anyone in the People's Party. Let the leaders of the People's Party show any sacrifice of this level," he said. He said that the person who suggested that the canteen should be named after Indira Gandhi was a member of the BJP cabinet.

Opposition leader Siddaramiah suggested that Ravi read the history and then react. Ravi stated in a series of tweets that the congressional leader insulted Ambedkar and was angry at him for telling the truth about Indira Gandhi.

"You always want to maintain a good relationship with a family. Why not Annapoorneshwari or someone from this land, why should every government project be named after a family," he said.
