Fayetteville, N.C. — The owner of a Fayetteville hookah lounge that was the site of a recent fatal shooting has been charged with lying to police, while an ALE investigation has led to his business being closed.
On May 30, a man died in a shooting at Airborne Hookah Lounge on Raeford Road in Fayetteville.
The investigation revealed a dispute between two employees led to the shootout behind the lounge. Three people were shot and one of them, 22-year-old Antwain Maruice Hoskins, was killed. A woman was said to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
ALE special agents found the owner of the property, Marwan Al Janabi of Fayetteville, provided false statements to Fayetteville police after the shooting. ALE also discovered the armed security guard Al Janabi hired for the event was not licensed through the North Carolina Private Protective Services Board.
On June 9, Al Janabi was arrested for employing an unlicensed armed security guard, allowing unlawful acts to occur on the licensed premises and failing to superintend the business.
On June 17, the business’ temporary ABC permits were rejected by the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission.
Police are still investigating the shooting. On the night of the incident, the police investigation spanned four locations: the hookah bar, the hospital and the sites where two cars believed to be connected to the shooting were found.
